Relay for Life - Discover Downtown Merrill Team encourages you to guess how many Bras will be donated to the BRAS ACROSS THE BRIDGE endeavor!
For a minimum $1 Donation to ”Discover Downtown Merrill” local Relay for Life Team at Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe at 923 East Main Street in Merrill, you can guess how many bras will be collected at our 7 drop off sites and hung on the Center Avenue Bridge across the Wisconsin River the Gateway to Downtown Merrill! The correct guess by July 28th of how many bras were collected & hung (or the closest guess to the correct # without going over = ‘busted’ ) will win a Basketful of Gift Certificates from Merrill businesses. In the event of a tie, the gift certificate PRIZE will be divided; Decision of the Judge is final.
The Discover Downtown Merrill businesses have been working together to get the public involved in the Crazy Day theme “Crazy for a Cause” since Friday, June 22. They began collecting clean used bras for the purpose of highlighting the fight against breast cancer with the Bras Across the Bridge display. The bras will be hung up just prior to Merrill’s Downtown Crazy Day on August 2nd, a premier community event complete with retail sales, music, and street food. The Bras Across the Bridge display will underscore fundraising efforts by other local teams for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event, taking place at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds August 3 and 4.
The Discover Downtown Merrill Business Association urges you to join in this FREE fundraising, social awareness event to make Merrill the talk of Central Wisconsin; and to bring those spectators/shoppers to Merrill. So ladies & men bring us those bras; they’re halfway to goal! Free drop off locations for bras are Gress Wellness Center, Thelmas/Johnson Gifts, Curves, Merrill Ace Hardware, Blooming Wishes, 1st Street Coffee Station and Waves.

An exciting finish to Sat Feb. 4 VIP dog sled race was witnessed as Jessica DeLong, mgr. of Aspirus Merrill Center won in 1:20.6 seconds just 3 seconds faster than James R. Koch representing Dynamo Creative Marketing! Amy Dinges raced for 3rd, an employee of River Valley Bank who sponsored the Custom Design Cool Running Sled Dog Race Family Activities. All three exclaimed: “It was fun and they could cross that off their Bucket List.”
Winner of the timed Ottoman Race (Courtside Furniture donated recliners that were pushed thru the snow on cross country skis) was Evyn Schmitz in 14.6 seconds and was awarded the Coleman travel cooler from Custom Design Heating & Cooling. Volunteers from the Lincoln Co. Humane Society manned the Lucky Dog Toss, Shelby Smukowski was randomly drawn from all contestants who succeeded in throwing their stuffed dog into the red barrel. She won a wheeled Coleman cooler and winning the Picnic Cooler was Zach Kriegel for participating in the Sled Pull from all who participated in pulling a real dog sled on a course on the Pine River school playground.
During the Sled Dog Supper held Sat. evening at Lincoln Lanes, the Custom Design Cool Running Coloring Contest winners were selected by those attending the AYCE spaghetti supper. Arriana, daughter of Carrie Schreiner from Athens won a Ribbon Gift album selected by Dynamo Creative Marketing in the 4th & 5th grade category. Faith Weber was selected First Place for the 2nd & 3rd grade division. Mya Wilde won the Kindergarten & 1st grade division and Lily Dallman won the Pre – Kindergarten group; all received a Kaleidoscope Gift album. Top 5 contestants all won prizes like storybooks, Bookworld certificates & Culvers Kids Meals and can pick them up at Custom Design Heating and Cooling 104 Blaine St. Merrill during normal business hours, if you don’t receive the prizes at your grade school.
Tim Haight, owner of Merrill Ace Hardware won the Arctic Star Dog Sled in the Custom Design Cool Running Trailblazers Raffle. Kathy Walters from Kroenwetter won the beautiful framed Iditarod print and Ruth DeJarlais, the principle of MAPS Pine River school won a hat & hoodie with the Race Logo printed on them. This 13th year of the WI Trailblazers Sled Dog race shrunk to a one day Fun Run with dogs pulling ATV’s because of the melting snow and bare fields.
The Wis. Trailblazers Sled Dog Club thank the many sponsors of this event those already mentioned and Lincoln Community Bank, Napa, Brickners Park City, Daves County Market, VIP Office Products, Knab Insurance and the Econo Lodge. They urge the friends of family activities to use the coupons in the Race brochure from Champs Restaurant, Pine Ridge Mobil, Chips Hamburgers, Blooms on Main, Pine Ridge Restaurant, Victory Lane, Culvers of Merrill and Riverside Athletic Club, where Merrill Park ‘n Rec held a co-ed volleyball tournament on Sat, Feb. 4th in conjunction with the Custom Design Cool Running Sled Dog Race.
